How do I add my new skill to my license?

Congrats on completing your course!

After completing a certification course for Tennessee dental professionals, you are required to complete the application process to have the certification added to your license. We've outlined the steps for you below.

Coronal Polishing Certification

Steps to complete the Application Process:
  • Visit the TN BOD Application Portal and sign in to your account.
  • Under "Manage Your License Information", select "Application to Add One or More Certifications".
  • Click the "Select" button.
  • Complete the application to add Coronal Polishing to your license.
  • Be sure to list Dent ED Online as the name of the educational institution on the application.
  • Check the box for "A Tennessee board approved certification course".
  • If you prefer, you can download the paper application form instead, and email it to the Board at dental.health@tn.gov

Radiology Certification

Steps to complete the Application Process:
  • Visit the TN BOD Application Portal and sign in to your account.
  • Under "Manage Your License Information", select "Application to Add One or More Certifications".
  • Click the "Select" button.
  • Complete the application to add Radiology to your license.
  • Be sure to list Dent ED Online as the name of the educational institution on the application.
  • Check the box for "A Tennessee board approved certification course".
  • If you prefer, you can download the paper application form instead, and email it to the Board at dental.health@tn.gov

Nitrous Oxide Monitoring Certification

Steps to complete the Application Process:
  • Visit the TN BOD Application Portal and sign in to your account.
  • Under "Manage Your License Information", select "Application to Add One or More Certifications".
  • Click the "Select" button.
  • Complete the application to add Nitrous Oxide Monitoring to your license.
  • Be sure to list Dent ED Online as the name of the educational institution on the application.
  • Check the box for "A Tennessee board approved certification course".
  • If you prefer, you can download the paper application form instead, and email it to the Board at dental.health@tn.gov

Sealant Placement Certification

Steps to complete the Application Process:
  • Download the Sealant Certification Application here. 
  • Your "Registration #" is your RDA license number. 
  • Be sure to list Dent ED Online as the name of the course Provider on the application.
  • Check the box for "A Tennessee board approved certification course".
  • Complete the application form and email it to the Board of Dentistry at dental.health@tn.gov
  • Remember, you may not perform sealant application until notification by the Board that your temporary permit has been added to your license. 
  • The Board will send you an email with your temporary permit. This email will also contain a link to the externship document that you will fill out during your 90-day externship.
  • Once your externship form is complete, you will email that form to the Board of Dentistry at dental.health@tn.gov
  • Remember, you may not place any more sealants until your externship form has been reviewed and approved by the Board.

Local Anesthesia Certification

Steps to complete the Application Process:
  • Download the Local Anesthesia Application here.
  • Be sure to list Dent ED Online as the name of the educational institution on the application.
  • Check the box for "A Tennessee board approved certification course".
  • Complete the application form and email it to the Board of Dentistry at dental.health@tn.gov
  • Remember, you may not perform any injections until notification by the Board that your temporary permit has been added to your license. 
  • The Board will send you an email with your temporary permit. This email will also contain a link to the externship document that you will fill out during your 90-day externship.
  • Once your externship form is complete, you will email that form to the Board of Dentistry at dental.health@tn.gov
  • Remember, you may not administer any more injections until your externship form has been reviewed and approved by the Board, and Local Anesthesia Administration has been added to your license.

Nitrous Oxide Administration & Monitoring Certification

To add Nitrous Oxide Monitoring and Administration to your Tennessee license, send an email with the following information to the Board:
  • Your name
  • Your license number
  • Request to add N2O Administration & Monitoring to your license
  • Course completion date
  • Let them know that you completed the course through Dent ED Online.
You  do not need to send them your completion certificate. The Board will verify your course completion through our website.
