Do I need to be registered as a dental hygienist in the state of Georgia to take this course?
Yes, you must be a licensed dental hygienists in Georgia.
Is this course accepted by other states?
It depends on the state. To be sure, contact other state boards of dentistry.
How is the course organized?
The course includes didactic, lab, and clinical sections. The 30-hour didactic portion is completed online and divided into topics with each topic containing multimedia presentations, practice tests and lab activities. The 15-hour lab portion is hbrid with some activities completed online, and some in-person. All online course material must be completed prior to attending the in-person portion of the course. The 15-hour clinical session is completed in-person.
What will we be doing during the clinical portion?
After reviewing the online material, you will be practicing the administration of all the major local anesthetic injections until clinical competency is obtained. Injections include the posterior, middle and anterior superior alveolar, the greater palatine, the nasopalatine, the inferior alveolar, the long buccal, the mental, and supraperiosteal/infiltration.
How long is the clinical portion?
Two days.
What materials do I need to bring to the clinical portion of the course?
Bring clinical attire including safety glasses, lab coat, close toed shoes, and latex free gloves if necessary. In addition, bring three sterilized anesthetic syringes.
Do I need to bring a patient to the clinical portion?
No, you do not need to bring a patient unless there is a reason you cannot receive local anesthesia. You will give and receive injections as a student partner. Please contact the instructor if there is a question.
Where will the clinical portion of the course be held?
The clinical portion will be held in different areas around Georgia. Specific locations are listed with the course dates above.
Who are the instructors?
The principle clinical instructor is Dr. Destiny Isbell, a clinical dentist licensed in Georgia. Teaching the upcoming dental generation is one of her many passions and she loves to cultivate a fun and informative learning environment for her students. She will be assisted by other clinical instructors.
Will faculty be available to help me before attending the clinical portion?
Yes, faculty will always be available to help. You will be able to message with your instructor withing the course platform.
What type of computer equipment will I need?
Any computer with an internet connection will be adequate for this course, but a high speed internet connection for your computer is highly desirable.

The fee for the course is $1650.
